Ingredient notes and substitutions
Cottage cheese – As the base of this dip, I like low-fat or full-fat cottage cheese when making this flavorful dip. Both make a delicious and creamy texture. Fat-free doesn’t blend as well as the others.
Spices – Dried spices are convenient when making dips and can be replaced with fresh herbs. Please note, you will need three times the amount of dried herbs if you use fresh herbs.
You can also make your own ranch seasoning mix with this recipe and add 1 tablespoon to the cottage cheese before blending.
Serving Suggestions
This healthy ranch dip tastes great garnished with chopped herbs such as fresh dill, parsley or chives and served with fresh vegetables, crackers, potato chips, tortilla chips, sweet potato fries or chicken tenders.
You can make a creamy ranch dressing by thinning the dip with milk or water, perfect for a salad dressing on your favorite salad
Recipe variations
Feel free to get creative and experiment with your favorite flavors and ingredients to make this tasty dip your own. Below are some suggestions.
Bacon and cheddar – Add a strip of cooked and crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar cheese for a smokey savory flavor.
Sun-dried and tomato – Blend in any combination of sun-dried tomatoes, Greek olives, or feta cheese for a Mediterranean twist.
Mexican – Stir in ground cumin, cayenne pepper and chili powder for a spicy Tex-Mex kick.
Tangy – If you like the tangy flavor of sour cream in your dips, you can use half sour cream or Greek yogurt to make this dressing.
How to store leftovers
Store this dip in the refrigerator for up to five days in an airtight container. Before serving, stir the dip quickly and add a little milk or water if it’s too thick.
💡Tips
- Opt for good quality cream cheese for best results.
- Blend thoroughly for creaminess.
- If possible chill the dip for at least an hour to infuse the flavors
It is not recommended to freeze cottage cheese dip. Once thawed out the texture will be different.
If you are short on time you can use 1 tablespoon of packaged dry ranch seasoning mix.
